The Hourglass Shape
As an Hourglass Shape, you are blessed with a naturally, symmetrical form. While we have to "trick" the eye with other body shapes, we can use your natural silhouette. Your shoulder width tends to match your hip width with a defined waist in between.
If you fall into this category, when you gain weight, you tend to gain it "evenly" all over your body. You may also have slightly larger thighs and a round butt.
Because your body type is "naturally" the shape we are working to create with other body shapes, the main goal is to highlight what you already have.
Top 3 Things For Hourglass Shapes To Remember
1) Fitted
Because your body shape is already the shape we desire to create for symmetry, fitted clothes are your best friend. Avoid baggy or boxy styles that hide your curvy form.
2) Don't Lose Your Waist
As mentioned in number 1, your defined waist is your best feature. Always make sure you are picking styles that highlight your waist.
3) Dark Colors
While lighter colors may amplify your beautiful curves, darker colors for pants are going to be the most flattering on you - think: dark wash jeans, dark wash leggings, dark pencil skirts.
How To Highlight Your Curves With What You Wear:
TOPS:
Fitted, Peplum, V Neck
A fitted basic, black tank top is perfect to complete the look for all hourglass shapes:
I love a good fitted denim snap top with natural v neck. Fitted does not always have to mean a basic fitted top...you can branch out into other styles.
JACKETS:
Cropped, Belted, Nipped At Waist
Here is an example of Buttoned Up, Shorter Blazer Jacket. Perfect for the Hourglass Shape!
PANTS:
High Rise, Loose Fitting, Flare, Bootcut
Here are those dark wash, bootcut Oakley jeans I featured in the Apple Shape blog. These are SO versatile. While these are more of a midrise, they totally work for an hourglass shape too!
SKIRTS & DRESSES:
Fitted, Wrap Dresses, Pencil Skirts
Do you have a "non-fitted" tunic top or dress in your closet that you LOVE but now know you can't pull off as an hourglass?
Here is an example of a great basic tunic top with pockets that I simply belted to make work with my hourglass shape!
